Values
Philosophy: While the days and weeks after you bring a new child into your home can be some of the most joyful, they can often be taxing on the parents' mental, physical, and emotional health. I commit to meeting parents and families where they are, to not trying to fix you, to not thinking of you as broken. I know you are doing your best, and your best is already amazing. I commit to working from a strengths-based perspective.
Black Lives Matter: Although Pittsburgh is often lauded as one of the country's most livable cities, we know that for Black women in particular this is far from true. A 2019 report from the Gender Equity Commission found that Black women in Pittsburgh are more likely to die during their pregnancy than their peers in 97% of U.S. cities. Birth workers and postnatal support workers have a responsibility to do as much as possible to reduce Black maternal mortality, whether offering services at a reduced fee, actively doing outreach in historically Black neighborhoods, and continually educating themselves to be anti-racist. I offer my services on a sliding scale, and will work with my clients to make it possible for them to receive the support they need without considering cost a barrier.
TLGBQ+ Families: As a queer Latine woman, I know first hand how difficult it can be to find queer- and trans-inclusive care. Whether your family has a single or multiple parents, whatever their gender(s), I will be right next to you connecting you to resources nearby, helping you with household tasks, working with you to figure out feedings, sleep schedules, and a routine that works for your family.
