Cost should not be a barrier for any families who would benefit from working with a postpartum doula. It’s also the case that we as a society should recognize the value of work that is historically done by women and still too often uncompensated. When you hire a postpartum doula, you are investing in your mental and physical health, taking pressure off you and your partner(s) in a time full of transition, and setting up your newest addition for a safe and nurturing babyhood and life.
My pricing model is transparent because I believe that when people have options and facts, they make decisions that best benefit everyone. My rate will is on a sliding scale from $25-$40 per hour. If the cost of $25 per hour is prohibitive to your family, please contact me and we can find a way to make it work. Each shift I work is a minimum of three consecutive hours, ideally four. This is an industry standard for a reason: in order to be effective as a postpartum doula, I need a good idea of how your home works. Additionally, one of our main goals is to enable and encourage rest and recovery in our clients. Any shift shorter than three hours can feel rushed and unsatisfying for both of us.
Many families work with me for 8-9 shifts in the first 6 weeks or so and then fewer per week for the next 4-6 weeks. On the low end of the sliding scale, your total investment in the first six weeks might be $800, and after about $100-$150 per week after. Alternately, many families find that they need increased support when one parent returns to work. My schedule is flexible to allow for families' needs to change over time.
If you live outside a 15 mile radius of 15206, I will charge the IRS standard reimbursement for each mile beyond 50 round trip ($0.56/mile).
